The story of Milly Alcock, the Sydney cafeteria worker to the DC Universe lead, is one of the most compelling Hollywood stories. The 26-year-old Australian actress is currently bearing the famous Supergirl shield, and all about her story is that she was born to do this.
In Sydney to Stardom

Milly was born Amelia May Alcock on April 11, 2000, in Sydney, New South Wales, where she lived with two brothers in the suburb of Petersham. Her first trick on television came at the age of 14 in the Australian series Wonderland, and she gradually, steadily worked her way to the world stage.
Dropping School to a Dream

Milly went to Newtown High School of the Performing Arts in Sydney, and left school to play Meg in the Foxtel comedy-drama Upright with Tim Minchin. The move was groundbreaking. This starring earned her an AACTA Award nomination and put her squarely in the spotlight as a serious acting prospect in Australia.
House of the Dragon Made It All

In 2022, Milly was nominated as young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in HBO’s House of the Dragon, which instantly gained her international recognition and a Critics Choice Television Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. She was asked by a senior producer to work with an acting coach, only two days after being on the set.
James Gunn Came Calling

The personal choice of the co-chief of DC Studios, James Gunn, to cast Milly as Supergirl was made after she demonstrated her acting diversity in House of the Dragon. In January 2024, she got the official cast and is the first to bring Kara Zor-El to the new DC Universe, with Gunn noting her skill in bringing out the emotional depth in the character.
A Darker, Toughened Supergirl

This is a different version of Kara Zor-El that viewers have never witnessed before. Her cousin Superman is more naive in contrast with her, as she has witnessed firsthand the destruction of Krypton and thus is more cynical and world-weary. According to Millay, the character to Empire Magazine was a trauma-survivor in the truest meaning of the word, an exceptionally flawed, strong, and very emotional individual.
The Movie and Its Plot

The comic series written by Tom King and Bilquis Evely is adapted into the 2022 DC comic series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which follows a revenue mission of Kara across the galaxy following her own personal tragedy. Under the direction of Craig Gillespie, the 170 million dollar movie, written by Ana Nogueira, finished shooting in May 2025, with a release date of June 26, 2026.
An Ensemble of Movie Stars

Milly stars in an ensemble that also features Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, a villain; Eve Ridley as the warrior Ruthye Marye Knoll, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze, Jason Momoa as a mercenary Lobo, and David Corenswet as Superman.
Almost Refusing the Part

It was confirmed that, firstly, Milly almost refused to play Supergirl. After having read the source comic and gotten the idea of what Gunn had in his mind, she put her all into it, and she said it was the most difficult and most satisfying work that she had ever done in her life.
A Generation-Defining Performance

Milly Alcock is on top of the world, as it is of Australian television, to a world franchise of DC. She has one of the most recognizable comic book film characters at the very young age of 26 years old. As Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comes out June 26, 2026, a superhero performance of a generation is certainly coming its way.
