These are the kind of miniseries that will provide complete, memorable experiences that you can enjoy in one sitting. They do not disappoint in their quality and pacing, from tense thrillers to gripping true stories, they’re in that sweet spot where you feel rewarded.
The Girlfriend

The Girlfriend is a psychological thriller in which the two women, Robin Wright and Olivia Cooke, come together and their relationship grows incredibly volatile. A rich mother becomes suspicious that her son’s new girlfriend can’t be trusted. The six episodes cleverly switch points of view, setting up unease about family loyalty and trust.
Chernobyl

It is a realistic and dramatic account of the nuclear disaster in 1986. The five episodes are centered on the human accounts and institutional shortcomings that ensued after the explosion. This limited series has a strong cast led by Jared Harris and is a drama of gripping intensity, while not taking anything lightly.
State of Play

State of Play is a newspaper crew trying to figure out what’s happening with a young woman who has been murdered in connection with a politician. The six-part British series from 2003 is a mix of personal relations and political intrigue. The tension is real and layered, thanks to excellent ensemble acting, including Bill Nighy, John Simm and good writing.
Chess Talent

The Queen’s Gambit follows the story of a young orphan who becomes a great chess player in the 1960s. Anya Taylor-Joy is outstanding in the seven chic episodes. The series features elements of a coming-of-age story as well as exciting matches that keep things exciting.
1883

This Yellowstone prequel follows families on a rough trail on the way west. The scenes are shot with great intensity, showing extreme hardships and individual experiences. Tim McGraw and Faith Hill provide a good presence in the limited run.
Band of Brothers

Band of Brothers tells the story of Easy Company from World War II campaigns. It’s a bit lengthy with 10 episodes, but because of the narrative and historical elements it’s still interesting. The cast of actors is excellent for vividly bringing the experiences to life.
We Own This City

We Own This City takes a look at events with a controversial police unit in Baltimore. The six-part series by David Simon provides an analytical and balanced approach to systemic issues. It is true to real experiences, yet has great narrative power.
Bodyguard

Bodyguard is about a professional bodyguard who is tasked with guarding a polarizing politician as threats mount. The six episodes are tightly plotted and well led by effective actors. This British production was an instant hit in the US thanks to its very good pacing.
