More than a decade after the original movie tried to change mainstream horror things are back with a new chapter. Vikram Bhatt returns with “Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Past” blending spooky vibes with a love story. Let us look at what this new sequel brings to the table and if it actually delivers the chills.
The Basic Story and Setup

The movie follows a troubled guy named Dev Dutt who moves to a lonely mansion near Maniktala Lake just to find some peace. He quickly gets tangled in spooky events and has to face buried secrets about his lost love Sunheri.
Using Old Horror Tricks

The writers relied heavily on very familiar things like creaking doors and shadowy figures to try and scare the audience. Because of this choice most of the scares feel super predictable and they do not really build any genuine tension in the theater.
A Very Slow Pacing Issue

One of the biggest problems with this sequel is that the mystery unfolds at a really frustrating and slow speed. All the important clues and reveals happen way too late to leave a strong impact on the viewers watching it.
The Romance Lacks Depth

The love story between Dev and Sunheri is supposed to be the main heart of the entire film. Sadly their relationship does not have enough depth so it becomes pretty hard to actually care about their emotional journey together.
Shifting Tones and Moods

The movie awkwardly jumps around between being a romance and a mystery and a horror film without fully committing to one. This imbalance makes the whole experience feel a bit confusing since it never really decides what kind of movie it wants to be.
A Disappointing Climax Fight

You would expect a big supernatural showdown at the end but it turns into a very routine physical fight instead. This weird choice for the final battle actually makes people laugh by mistake because it just feels so out of place.
Great Scenery and Locations

On a positive note the scenic mountain setting and the isolated mansion do create a really nice and creepy background. There are a few scenes that capture a cool gothic atmosphere which shows what the movie could have been with a little more polish.
Inconsistent Visual Effects

The special effects frequently break the magic of the movie because the computer graphics often look a bit outdated. It is hard to stay scared when the visuals pull you right out of the spooky moment you are supposed to be feeling.
Funny Background Music Choices

A good horror movie needs a great background score to build suspense but this one occasionally turns unintentionally funny. Some of the music during the ghost scenes just does not match the mood and takes away from the serious vibe.
Sincere Acting Effort

Mahaakshay Chakraborty gives a very sincere performance and really tries his best to show all of his character’s emotional struggles. Chetna Pande brings a lot of vulnerability to her role even though the script does not give her much room to shine.
